For many people who use a wheelchair or have sensory needs, going to the cinema can be difficult for them and their carers. But with adjusted lighting, appropriate volume for those with sensory needs, and crucially no stairs to navigate wheelchairs on the ground floor, The Duke of York’s reach out to people who may have a physical or mental disability by regularly screening non-exclusive ‘All-Welcome’ films.

Manager, Felicity Beckett and staff at The Duke of York’s are delighted to be promoting the ‘All Welcome’ Disabled Access Day initiative on the 10th March, encouraging cinema for all, regardless of ability.

Felicity Beckett said “The Duke of York’s is an integral part of the Brighton community and as such, endeavours to cater for as many aspects as possible of the community’s needs. We are delighted to be part of this initiative and would encourage everyone to join in.”

Fundraising and Development Manager at The Bevern Trust, Matthew Cornish said, “It is great working with The Duke of York’s who are dedicated to helping overcome social barriers and banish stereotypes around disability and we’re so grateful to Felicity and her team. The Bevern Trust care for people with profound disabilities who need care 24 hours a day, but our residents still love a visit to the cinema just like anyone else. We’re encouraging everyone in the community as well as other local disability charities to join us at the Duke of York’s on the 10th March to celebrate Disabled Access Day to see Disney’s Moana with free popcorn!
