You’ll have to be quick to get some of the last few remaining places in The Lewes Santa Run for the Bevern Trust’s Christmas fundraiser. The Fun Run on Saturday 1st December will kick-start the festive season as over a hundred ‘Santa’s’ suit-up for a Yuletide 2km run around Malling Brooks in Lewes and hopes to raise at least £3000 for the Sussex disability charity. Live music from the brass band and Christmas tree lined entrance to the yard on the first day of December will welcome even more Santa’s this December, as the event returns to Lewes after last year’s first ever successful Santa Run.
Online registration is open until 29th November for Santa’s to sign up at www.beverntrust.org/santarun, which starts and finishes at Harvey’s Yard. All the funds raised will support the charity and its work caring for profoundly disabled people and their families across East Sussex.
Matthew Cornish, Fundraising Manager at The Bevern Trust is ho-ho-hoping to see lots of Santa’s return to the town for this festive spectacle. He said: “We want to see a really fun-filled event to get Christmas off to a cracking start in Lewes. It’ll be a spectacular sight with so many people in their Santa suits, so book now as places are limited; run, jog or stroll and help make our Lewes Santa Run a Christmas Cracker!”
All those entering will be given their very own Santa suits and medal with refreshments afterwards, provided courtesy of Harvey’s Brewery.
Matthew continued: “The people the Bevern Trust care for at our home Bevern View require specialist support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The fundraising and sponsorship that people raise from events like the Santa Run are absolutely vital to provide the support our residents need, so join us and help make this an extra special Christmas for those we care for in Sussex.”
The Charity’s patron, TV presenter and former Strictly winner Natasha Kaplinsky who is starting the run said, “This is such an important cause and I would encourage as many people as possible to come and and support Lewes Santa Run on the day and help raise as much funds as possible for disabled people in Sussex.”
The Bevern Trust relies on donations from the public to raise more than £12,000 each month to continue providing its specialist services and opportunities for profoundly disabled people to get more from life.
Lewes Santa Run is kindly sponsored by Lewes businesses: Knill James, Harvey’s and HRS Creative and supported by Lewes Town Council which means all the money raised from runner’s sponsorship can go towards the vital care The Bevern Trust provides.
The route is accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs, so the whole family can take part – even well-behaved dogs on a lead!
Entry is just £20 for adults, £10 for under 16s and includes a Santa suit and a medal. Under 5s are free and although they cannot be given a Santa suit due to size limitations, they will have their own Santa Hat and medal and still must register in advance.
