2018 Lewes Santa Run is a huge success, raising thousands!
The people of Lewes came out and showed their support for The Bevern Trust’s annual Santa Run on Saturday 1stDecember to kick-start the town’s festive season in wonderful style. 135 Santa’s limbered up in Harvey’s Yard before the start with help from Luc at The Fitness Studio Lewes.
Our Patron, TV presenter and former Strictly winner Natasha Kaplinsky officially started the charity Santa Run at 11am with Santa’s setting off for a Yuletide 2km run around Malling Brooks in Lewes. Santa Runners are set to help raise £3000 for the Sussex disability charity.
Despite the relentless rain, Santa’s carried on regardless getting in to the Christmas spirit with live music from the Lewes Ukulele band, festive doughnuts from Brighton based Dum Dum Doughnutterie, fresh coffee from Hannah’s Van, bacon rolls from Pig & Jacket, and refreshments and mince pies for all the Santa runners provided courtesy of event sponsor Harvey’s Brewery. All the funds raised will support the charity and its work caring for profoundly disabled people and their families across East Sussex.
Matthew Cornish, Fundraising Manager at The Bevern Trust said: “We knew the weather was not going to be on our side, so we were fully prepared for every eventuality. To see nearly all the runners who had booked, still come down and get involved despite the rain was so encouraging. We’re so grateful to all our runners for braving the weather and for their support of this growing annual family festive event for the town – it means so much to everyone at The Bevern Trust to have such great numbers at our charity events in Lewes. We would also like to thank The Lewes Lions and all our volunteers who came to help make the event such a success.
Matthew continued: “The people the Bevern Trust care for at our home Bevern View require specialist support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The fundraising and sponsorship that local people raise from events like the Lewes Santa Run are vital to provide the support our residents need. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped to make this an extra special Christmas for those we care for in Sussex.
The Bevern Trust relies on donations from the public to raise more than £12,000 each month to continue providing its specialist services and opportunities for profoundly disabled people to get more from life.
Lewes Santa Run was kindly sponsored by Lewes businesses: Knill James, Harvey’s and hrscreative and supported by Lewes Town Council which means all the money raised from runner’s sponsorship can go towards the vital care The Bevern Trust provides.
