October Charity Fair Success

East Sussex Fundraising Committee | October Charity Fair

East Sussex Fundraising Committee welcomed hundreds of people through the door at Ardingly Show Ground for the Charity Fair on the 10th October to help raise thousands for The Bevern Trust.

Stall holders from across the country were selling the most beautiful items, from scarves, to woollens, jewellery to perfume, many of which can’t be found on the high street. The home-made cakes and produce on sale were a huge success and very few visitors went home empty handed from the fair.

Entry fees, donations and contributions from stall holder sales helped the committee raise just over £10,500 for The Bevern Trust which was an incredible achievement. All the funds raised, directly help provide round the clock care, more freedom and opportunities for profoundly disabled people at the Trusts home ‘Bevern View’ in Barcombe.

Change the lives of people with profound disabilities in Sussex

Every resident in our home uses a wheelchair and needs support with all aspects of their life. The Hydropool at our home, Bevern View allows profoundly disabled people with painful muscle contractions, breathing difficulties and anxiety to experience the freedom and warmth of warm water. This calms and relaxes and means the people we care for are in less pain and can move in ways that are just not possible otherwise.  Your £10 donation (doubled to £20 through the localgiving initiative) will help us raise the £5000 a year it costs to run the pool, helping people with complex needs to experience the freedom and joy of the water, giving happiness and joy.

The course is set in mature parkland and features superbly contoured greens, interesting natural water hazards and a host of strategically placed bunkers. It is maintained all year round to a very high standard, without the need for temporary tees and greens.

Mid Sussex Golf Club is within easy reach of DitchlingHaywards Heath and Burgess Hill and is only 30 minutes from Brighton or 20 minutes from Lewes.

Charity Golf Day at Mid Sussex Golf Club

Mid Sussex Golf Course has a reputation for being a fun course to play for all standards of golfers off the forward tees, and so lends itself well as a golf day venue.

The 14th is the signature hole on the course – a par 5 which the big hitters can hit in two, but with water snaking through the hole, with bunkers waiting for every mistake and with a “switchback” green, there is also the danger of a scorecard wrecking double bogey or worse!

At least £20 from each golf place sold is donated to the Bevern Trust. Profits from the raffle or auction prizes will also be donated to the charity and all donations will directly help profoundly disabled people in Sussex to live their life in abundance. Thank you for your support.

Practice Facilities at Mid Sussex Golf Course

THE RANGE

The driving range is set in a most idyllic location in the peaceful countryside just a short pitch from the first tee. Grass tees are often in use as well as the all-weather mats. The range is now partly covered and so in use 12 months of the year. The serious practicer may want to consider the Practice facilities at great token rates. All societies, green fees and guests for the day will be able to warm up on the range on purchase of a token.

THE PITCHING AND BUNKER AREA

There is an area of land set aside solely for those who wish to tighten up their game from 100 yards and in. There are four “short” holes which can be played from tee to green. The main green is flanked by a practice bunker giving opportunity to rid yourself of your fear of sand.

THE PUTTING GREENS

You’ll find the main putting green right where it should be…..by the first tee. As it was constructed in keeping with the rest of the greens with regards to it’s contours, undulations and consistency of pace, you’ll know exactly what to expect when you venture out onto the course. The other putting green is conveniently close to the clubhouse bar – ideal should your practice not go to plan!

Christ Church Lewes

On Sunday 9th July, Jonathan Spencer, Chief Executive of the charity was invited to the Service at Christ Church to talk to the congregation about the The Bevern Trust and explain how their fundraising and support has such a positive impact on the lives of the profoundly disabled people in Sussex that we care for.

The Bevern Trust must raise at least £12,000 each month to allow people with profound disabilities to live their lives in abundance. As a charity, we ensure each person we support has real choice and control over the care they need to achieve their goals, to live a fulfilling life and stay in contact with their family and the local community. We rely on the local community to raise the vital funds we need to do this and so we are delighted to have the support from Christ Church in Lewes this year.

If your Church or community group choose a local charity to support each year, The Bevern Trust would be the perfect match and can clearly demonstrate the positive impact of giving back to your local community. You can call 01273 021241 or email info@beverntrust.org for details of how your support can provide life-changing support for people in Sussex who live with the most complex needs, every day.

Chief Executive Jonathan Spencer said, ”As a local charity, we see wonderful acts of kindness and support, but to receive a gift like this from John Clark and Lewes Golf Club is absolutely fantastic and will make a huge difference to the lives of the people we care for.

”As we grow and will soon start to provide home care to disabled people in Sussex, we will look to more organisations and groups like this to help raise the funds we need to care for more local people.
”Our thanks go to John and all at Lewes Golf Club for their generous support.”

John Clark said ” The Captain at Lewes is in office for one year and an important part of the role is the Captain’s choice of charity. I chose the Bevern Trust because I had heard such good things about the work they do. When I visited them, I was so impressed with the set up and their care for profoundly disabled people.
“The money was raised by a Captain’s Day Charity Competition and the Rotary Club of Lewes organise a Charity Golf Day too and generously give a donation from the money they raise to the Captain’s Charity at The Golf Club. We also asked any member playing, who hit in to the nominated ‘Captain’s Bunker’, to make an extra donation!
